On a rainy Thursday morning, TEDxArendal had a gathering with several of the partners for this year’s event. The point of this gathering was to get to know each other, and the other businesses that have a big presence in Arendal. There was a presentation from Kåre, the Head of Commerce in Arendal Municipality, about new business plans that soon will be in action. Geir Andrew, one of the founders of TEDxArendal also had a presentation about how TEDxArendal came to be what it is today.
When discussing new business plans that are scheduled to be realized soon, one of the topics that came up was “What can TEDxArendal do?”. First of all, TEDxArendal tries to be a link between different businesses in Arendal. This could include a partnership between businesses that would not have found each other, had it not been for the common ground in TEDxArendal.
Secondly, TEDxArendal wants to be a beacon when it comes to creating a more inclusive environment in Arendal. Especially when it comes to creating a network outside of family and work. Because TEDxArendal is more than just an annual event. It is a place where people can get to know other people with either similar or different interests. It is a place where you can feel a sense of belonging even though you are far away from home.
And thirdly, TEDxArendal works hard to be a place where opportunities are created. This could be in the form of experience through volunteering, a diverse network, and broadening your knowledge horizon. The partners are of course a big part of the opportunities created. Without the partners, TEDxArendal would not have been able to achieve the things we have achieved, and we would not have been among the top 5 TEDx events in the world in 2017. We are enthusiastic about what the future brings for both partners and us!
